Learn the Ropes for Safely Traveling with Fine Jewelry

It is that time of the year for road trips, weekend get-a-ways and the ever famous flight delayed for the next six hours while we fix the landing gear. You want to look your best, so you plan on bringing your fine jewelry with you. Pearls for that little black dress, your tennis bracelet that goes from a tee and jeans to your date night dress. The problem is, how do you travel safely with these pieces?

As much as you love the pearls that were your grandmother’s, think twice before taking them with you. They have a special sentimental value to you, and in terms of that are completely irreplaceable. How would you console yourself if the Jewelry Gnomes made off with your grandmother's pearls on your trip?

Also, make sure any jewelry you take with you is insured. Update all the info on any pieces you plan on taking with you. Pictures and appraisals should be sent to your insurance company, and secure the information in case the inconceivable happens.

Staying in a hotel? Try to find out if they offer in-room safes. Many hotels do not, but do have a safety deposit box where you can leave your valuables. Make sure not to walk around with all your jewelry stowed in your purse. If you lose it or it is stolen, you will lose everything in one fell swoop.
