The Unbalanced Equation of Engagement Rings

The custom of engagement rings in the U.S. is that the man buys the woman a ring to show the intent of marriage. Then the woman gets another ring, or at the very least an addition to the ring she has already. What does the man get? Nothing till the day of the wedding. It could just be me, but that seems a little one side and frankly, a bit unfair.

Other countries and cultures utilize a matching set of rings as a symbol of betrothal. That seems pretty fair that both the man and woman have a symbol on their hands displaying their eternal love for one another. Here, the man doesn't have that symbol, that show of devotion to the woman he loves till the day he actually gets married. That's silly, the engagement isn't one sided, it took two people to come to a collective consensus that they want to spend the rest of their lives together. Thus, both the man and the woman should have a ring to proudly display to the world that their love is reserved for another. Maybe I'm wrong, but being a guy and having to wait till my wedding day to finally put on a ring was slightly aggravating Engagement rings aren't just for women, men like to accessorize too.
