Loose Diamonds: Basic Knowledge on How to Grade Diamonds

Every woman loves diamonds! There is nothing more thrilling than receiving one of these precious stones, especially if it comes with a question from your significant other. Many women know exactly what they want when it comes to loose diamonds. However, they may not be aware of the basic components jewelers use to grade these wonderful specimens.  They are referred to as the four C's of diamonds.

The first C is the cut. This refers to the overall shape of your diamond and the many facets cut into it to make it sparkle in the light. The second C is clarity, pertaining to the imperfections in and on the surface of your stone. The third C is color. This is a scale that measures how close to colorless your white diamond actually is. The last C is carat and refers to the sheer size of the stone. This is how jewelers weigh diamonds.

All of these factors come together to form the price tag that your lovely loose diamond possesses. Most jewelers provide certified loose diamonds for their customers because they come with detailed documentation about the stone. This is a great way to ensure you are getting a fair price on your diamond and feel confident with your purchase.
